Goodlooking MICHAEL LUIS MARAVILLA II and beauteous BEATRIZ ANDREA GEROCHI, both of Central Philippine University, were declared Mr. and Ms. PRISSAAP 2014 in a glitzy pageant at the Crown Ballroom of Punta Villa Resort. The Centralians bested representatives from nine high schools across the Western Visayas.

An early favorite, the former took the Best in Interview, Best in Frozen Wear, Best in Production Number and Best in Formal Wear awards.

When asked about this achievement, he said, “It was a great and memorable experience and I’d like to thank everyone who helped me. It was definitely heartwarming to be called as Mr. PRISSAAP 2014.”

Best in Interview awardee BEATRIZ ANDREA GEROCHI was the surprise winner of the night. “The pageant is a doorway for those who want to be on stage and of course to learn more about ourselves. I would never take back this experience and I am grateful for each and every experience that I’ve encountered,” she enthused.

Coming close second were candidates from University of San Agustin — Best in Festival recipient ERIC JUSTIN TIDWELL and Best in Frozen Wear, Best in Production Number, Best in Festival Attire and Best in Formal Wear winner COLEEN DOROTHY CAGAMPAN.

A toast to success

“Every great achievement is the victory of a flaming heart.”Ralph Waldo Emerson

To celebrate the success of the launching of the fashion collection of AGNESETTE AUSAN, her doting parents Consul General of the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia LEO TITO AUDAN Jr. and his wife AGNES BRAZAS-AUSAN hosted a cocktail party at the Kasadyahan and Dinagyang Halls of Go Hotels Iloilo for more than two hundred guests.

The guest list was an eclectic mix of diplomats, socialites, businessmen, fashion insiders, professionals and achievers! Amid all the fun and to the lounge music by MIKE SORILLA, they all enjoyed on sumptuous hors d’ eourves by restaurateur PAULINE GORRICETA-BANUSING, overflowing fine wine, good conversations and each other’s company!

Agnesette Ausan launches collection

“All fashions are charming, or rather relatively charming, each one being a new striving, more or less well conceived, after beauty, an approximate statement of an ideal, the desire for which constantly teases the unsatisfied human mind.”Charles Baudelaire

AGNESETTE AUSAN is the newest darling of the Iloilo fashion scene. She recently unveiled her fashion collection of fabulously crafted cocktail dresses and evening gowns in a well-thought of fashion spectacle at The Fountain of the fun mall Robinsons Place Iloilo.

The tableau of gold, red and black gowns encapsulated the collection that unfolded before an over crowd of diplomats and who’s who in Iloilo society, fashion, business and profession.

The “Black” presented LBDs (little black dresses) perfect for cocktails and evening affairs. The chic pieces came in soft leather, fine silk and light chiffon, and embellished in pearls and subtle embroideries. Hemlines were either above the knee or just below knee giving them a modern twist.

Then came the “Reds”. Silk, chiffon and stretch tulle were embellished with laser cut lace.

The “Gold” portion featured red carpet gowns in brocade, silk, beaded lace, gossamer and stretch tulle.

The 35-piece collection was capped with a pristine white wedding gown worn by Ilongga RIA BOLIVAR, one of Philippines’ top supermodels. It has a beaded and feathered bodice and bouffant structured skirt.

The silhouette of the collection was very feminine with soft shoulder, close to the body, A-line and bouffant with emphasis on the waist and back. Hips were highlighted by soft peplum.

The designer’s creations have the classic and luxurious elegance of the 40’s and 50’s and she gave them an updated modern look.

AGNESETTE AUSAN is the daughter of Philippine Consul General to Jeddah, KSA LEO TITO AUSAN and his wife AGNES BRAZAS-AUSAN.

The well-applauded show was directed by BO PARCON who was also the creative consultant with JET SALCEDO and MIKE SORILLA as fashion consultant and musical director, respectively. RYAN HINAYHINAY was the stylist while RUFFY ITAAS, IRA JUCABAN and PEPOY TANCINCO did the models’ hair and make-up. RAY TABAFUNDA and JAY-R SOLINAP were the official photographers and graphic artists and KRISTOFFER LUIS CATINAN was the production assistant.

The AGNESETTE AUSAN Launching Fashion Show was also presented by Robinsons Place Iloilo, Go Hotels Iloilo, GMA and Panay News with support from Iloilo Young Designers Council and Designers Guild of Iloilo.  (Photos by Ray Tabafunda)

Dogs on the catwalk

“Who loves me loves my dog.”Latin Proverbs

It was a dog day afternoon well spent. Yours truly was one of the judges for the Haute Dog Couture Show at the Amigo Mall. Joining me were dog advocate PAUL POLLENTES and fashion designer JOHN MONTINOLA.

Amid the bows and wows, twenty cuddly and furry men’s best friends in all shapes, sizes and breeds strutted in their best designer outfits to the delight of the judges, organizers, their “pawrents” and the audience.

The winning-est cutie was MICO. The Pomeranian, owned by MYKIE JON ANDUQUE, took the Darling of the Crowd, The Cutest Dog and Best in Outfit awards.

The Pomeranian Pits KIOKO, owned by LOUISE EVE SOROLLA, got the most likes in Facebook while shih tzu BIBO, owned by PENELOPE BALIDA, took home the Best in Runway citation.

The winners and their “pawrents” received cash prizes and giveaways from PR guru MAE PANES and the sponsors.

Haute Dog Couture Show was organized by TMX and Shops at Amigo.

Gelatissimo

It was a delightful afternoon of espresso variations, blended and soft gelato, cold beverages and baked choices when Buon Gelato opened at the fun mall Robinsons Place Iloilo! No less than the owners, couple WILLIE and ROWENA SHIN welcomed the guests to their newest business venture.

Media personas, bloggers, fashionistas, PR gurus and the curious hobnobbed with each other to get a sweet taste of Buon Gelato! Invitees also enjoyed on cookies, cup cakes, sandwiches and loads of good conversation.

Oh, well, the afternoon ended with saccharine smiles on our faces and sweet taste on our lips! (Photos by Ray Tabafunda)

Daughter of diplomats, Philippine Consul General to Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia LEO TITO AUSAN and his wife AGNES BRAZAS-AUSAN, AGNESETTE has lived and studied in several countries in three continents.

She recently graduated from School of Fashion and Arts in Makati.

Here are excerpts of her conversation with PN I Style:

IS. Please tell us your background on fashion.

AA. I have always been interested in fashion even as a child. I grew up drawing little designs and dressing up my Barbie dolls. As I grew older I moved on to watching fashion shows, reading fashion magazines, and following designers and their collections on the net. I immersed myself in fashion documentaries and fashion books to learn as much about the business as I can.

IS. What are your influences?

AA. I have a lot of influences, the biggest would be the fact that most of my life I lived in several different countries in 3 different continents. That opportunity has given me something that money can’t buy and that is the opportunity to experience the life, the people and most of all the fashion in these countries. I always believe that wherever you look you can choose to see the beauty of it and derive inspiration from it.

IS. What are aesthetics?

AA. My aesthetic is high end luxe wear both evening wear and cocktail dresses. I tend to use luxurious fabric and try to let the fabric speak for itself with minimal trimmings and embellishments.

IS. Who are your favorite international and local fashion designers?

AA. International designers are Karl Lagerfeld, Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, Lanvin Designs and Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman. My local favorite is Michael Cinco.

IS. Favorite fashion icon?

AA. Sarah Jessica Parker

IS. What are your inspirations for your launching collection?

AA. I hope to be a part of the Iloilo Fashion Community. I am originally from Iloilo so I would like to establish a career here.

IS. Your comments on Iloilo fashion scene.

AA. The past couple of months that I spent getting to know some of the designers and the fashion scene in Iloilo, I would have to say that this is a very vibrant, supportive, fun and creative community. I received a warm welcome from them and they were very supportive. I feel like the Iloilo fashion scene has greatly evolved and that soon Iloilo will be one of the centers of fashion in this country. I am also happy to see that the designers now have their own group and that there are a lot of fashion shows throughout the year that allows designers to showcase their creativity.

IS. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?

AA. I see myself as a very successful fashion designer, both locally and internationally. I would like to be a household name and develop all aspects of my line to the best of my ability. I dream of learning more and more about this industry and to further educate myself in all its categories. I would love to represent Iloilo as a fashion designer.

IS. Your ideal woman to dress?

AA. If I could dress anybody I would love to dress Miranda Kerr or Sarah Jessica Parker.

IS. To you, what are the glamour colors?

AA. Black, white, red and gold.

IS. Are your creations glamorous, sexy or both?

AA. Both.

Two for the road

“The greatest need of every human being is the need for appreciation.”Unknown Source

It was a weekday but it didn’t stop MARY ANN LUGO and BONG PIDO from celebrating their joint birthday. So, after the office of Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loans Association, Inc. (AFPSLAI) Iloilo closed and work was done, an intimate party was hosted by them.

Officemates and few guests enjoyed on good food and interesting conversations! Wishes and greetings were also exchanged.

Politics and fashion with a dash of showbiz

“In politics…shared hatreds are almost always the basis of friendships.”Alexis de Tocqueville

In the Philippines, politics, fashion and showbiz really make a good mix. And there was big dose of them at the recent State of the Nation Address of President BENIGNO SIMEON AQUINO. Politicians, their trophy spouses and partners, kibitzers, businessmen and celebrities of all social and political persuasions came to hear the one hour and 34 minute speech of the President, to see and be seen in various fashion statements.

But while fashion designer FREDERICK PERALTA insisted that the “SONA is not an event where you display Filipino pageantry,” some guests kept their attires characteristically vivid and vibrant. Some were bejewelled, but, forgivingly, not over the top.

SONA fave JC BUENDIA, who has dressed up the President and his sister KRIS AQUINO, said,  “As in other events, austere is given a new meaning. I think this has to do with a need to disassociate from the NAPOLES era extravagance.”

On this page are some of the stand-out red carpet dramas.

Love her or hate her but KRIS AQUINO was stunning in her yellow silk and black lace gown by CARY SANTIAGO. HEART EVANGELISTA was cheesy in white terno by JOEY SAMSON. ASSUNTA da ROSSI (Mrs. JULES LEDESMA) wore a creamy one-shoulder gown. Leyte 4th District Rep. LUCY TORRES-GOMEZ played it safe and chic in a nude champagne-colored terno created by RANDY ORTIZ.

Sen. PIA CAYETANO wore lacy black and grey asymmetrical gown while her sister-in-law Taguig Mayor LANI CAYETANO was elegant in lavender terno.

Vice Presidential daughter and senatorial sister Makati Rep. MAR-LEN ABIGAIL BINAY whose brother is Makati mayor donned a piña terno with black lining and purple linear detail by IVARLUSKI ASERON.

Laguna Representative SOL ARAGONES came in red accompanied by designer and fellow LGBT advocate RENÉE SALUD in white.

Diwa party-list Rep. EMMELINE AGLIPAY‘s gown had chevrons on the butterfly sleeves of her classic terno.

TOOTSIE ANGARA was lovely in a RAJO LAUREL outfit made with Ifugao fabric. But did the butterfly sleeve shrink?

Sen. GRACE POE was a vision in white and lace terno by up-and-coming designer ROLETTE ESMILLA.

Tongues wagged when Madam IMELDA MARCOS strode quickly down the carpet in a peach bejeweled gown by new designer HILQUE DAIRO. TIMI AQUINO (Mrs. BAM AQUINO) came in powder blue draped terno.
