Fare thee well

As of this writing, Fr. DENNIS BATACANDOLO, CSS, is now in Sicily, Italy where he will be assigned for the next six years.

But before he left, the gorgeous ROSALES sisters – PANGGING and PANE – hosted an intimate despedida party for him at Henry’s Wine and Liquor in Plazuela de Iloilo.

Amid sips and spills of fine wine and iced vodka and bites of imported cheeses, we talked on history, geography and future plans. The fun went ‘til we hours.

Pads,” as he is fondly called, belongs to the Congregation of Sacred Stigmata. He was the officiating priest during the masses at the wake of my late sister MARIAN CASTIGADOR-PORNEL.

“No goodbyes, just see you soon!” he said as we called it the night or what was it morning?

Happy Birthday, Nono!

As couturier NONO PALMOS marked another year, he was surprised with sumptuous lunch celebration by sisters PANGGING and PANE ROSALES at Olé, a Spanish-Mexican bistro at Robinsons Place Iloilo.

We enjoyed on pasta, paella, nachos and quesadilla, all complemented by pitchers of Margarita!

Conversation ranged from fashion, currents events and showbiz!

We had so much fun that before we knew it, it was late afternoon!

Cheers, best wishes and God bless, NONO!

“Bring out the bubbly” (Part 2)

Beaming with smile of success, the celebrator EDOUARD L. GARCIA moved around and mingled with guests from living room, poolside to the lawn, followed by photographers to grab in freeze frames the fun moments.

The guest list was an eclectic mix of sugar barons, their well-dressed ladies, businessmen, artists and social personas who all partied and wined till wee hours!

Why not? After all, the zest of life was on their side! (Photos by C. M. Magallanes)

“Bring out the bubbly!” (Part 1)

Hardly had he unpacked his bags from a vacation in Paris, Negros Island Tourism Ambassador, the bon vivant francophile EDOUARD L. GARCIA threw a champagne-dinner party to celebrate his birthday at his residence in Bacolod City! He asked his guests to come in chateau attires! The Lacson-Garcia mansion is the last of its kind on Lacson Street!

In white crisp dress shirt, gold brocade pants and a Venetian mask, he welcomed his guest with his usual bubbly self on the foyer where cocktails were held. “Very French,” enthused vivacious NONOI YBIERNAS.

Porcelain birds ordered by interior designer JONATHAN MATTI from France decorated the dining room table while florals and foliage done by creative ADRIAN LIZARES cascaded from the chandelier. (Photos by C.M. Magallanes. To be continued)

A vroom vroom-fun party

The newly-organized Volvo Club Iloilo recently held a fun-filled Christmas Party at the Emerald Room on the second floor of Smallville 21 Hotel.

Done in gold and silver with touches of red and green, the party venue was perfect for the party. A lounging couch was strategically placed for a more relaxed mood. The silk damask curtains were drawn to offer everyone a good view of the hip-hopping Smallville.

The hotel’s chefs prepared a sumptuous buffet at par with the best this side of Metro-Iloilo!

Led by its President BUDDY SILVA and VP PETER PAUL YAP, the gents brought beveragic delights. And everyone brought presents for the traditional exchange of gifts.

Aprés dinner, the partying went into high gear with everyone taking turns in singing-along on the KTV system. In between songs, there was a lively exchange on current events.

Indeed, it was a fun night of holiday cheers!

Volvo Club Iloilo is a group of men and women who each own the popular Swedish-made car in Iloilo city and hereabouts. The Club’s main purpose is road safety.

A promise fulfilled

Ten months in the making, the RAUL M. GONZALEZ Museum at Petalsville Subdivision in Jaro was ready for its inauguration. The late-afternoon affair gathered who’s who in politics, business, society, press media, and loyalists and supporters.

A top notched lawyer, the late RAUL M. GONZALEZ has occupied several positions in the government. Among them were Representative of Lone District of Iloilo City and Justice Secretary. He has successfully argued for the commutation of the death sentence of the late Sen. BENIGNO AQUINO Jr.

The Museum houses the memorabilia of the late statesman. Adjacent to it is the Medical Service Annex for ECG, ultrasound and X-ray machines.

“These services are for free for the poor and in need,” said Dr. PACITA TRINIDAD-GONZALEZ, the widow of the statesman. The building is PWD and elderly-friendly!

The affair kicked off with a Holy Mass in a nearby chapel. Rep. IMELDA ROMUALDEZ-MARCOS, the former first lady, jetted in from Cosmo-Manille to lead the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Après the blessing of each room, dinner was served on the second floor. It was spiced up by the stellar performance of world-renowned violinist JOHN LESACA. His wife MARILOU ARROYO-LESACA read a dedication message of former president and now Pampanga Rep. GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO for the family and the museum.

On hand to welcome the guests were the GONZALEZ children – Dr. GOLD, Atty. RAUL Jr., Dr. CHARMAINE and JOEL.

According to Dr. GOLD, RMG Museum is her father’s “legacy to the Ilonggos…a testament of service…” She also thanked everyone for all their love, overwhelming support and unforgettable memories!

The RMG Museum’s inauguration was perfectly timed for the late RAUL M. GONZALEZ’s and RAUL T. GONZALEZ Jr.’s birthdays!

Strawberry fields forever…with touches of orange!

With friendship and thanksgiving, Panay News Woman of Style and Philippine Tatler Top Hostess BEVERLY “Pangging” ROSALES celebrated her birthday with an intimate yet fun party at the family’s Strawberry Mansion!

In attendance were family members and dearest friends. The cheery ambience was a fusion of Thanksgiving and Christmas with décor arrangements by the celebrator’s sister, charming JOJI “Pane” ROSALES.

The menu for the cocktail and sit-down dinner party was a collaboration between PANE ROSALES, MIGUEL CORDOVA of the famed DoVa and MARIDEL PADILLA-UYGONGCO!

NIKKO CID, the celebrator’s handsome nephew, roasted and toasted her to everyone’s delight.

With the right elements for partying in place, everyone got down into the business of having fun! Après dinner, we enjoyed on beveragic delights, more hors d’oeuvres, interesting conversation and 70s and 80s dance music! (Photos by Ray Tabafunda)

A perfect opening

In time for the blessing of SM City Iloilo Expansion Wing, Chikaan inaugurated its second branch on mall’s Lower Ground Floor.

Gourmets and gourmands hobnobbed with food bloggers and lifestyle writers in a festive mood. Après the formalities led by government officials and the owners WILLY and ROWENA SHIN, everyone savored the best Filipino-Asian fusion cuisine this side of Metro-Iloilo!

My eagle eyes snapped on charming sisters BING CORDERO-TAJANLANGIT and TATA CORDERO-ESPINOSA, businesswomen GIRLIE GANZON and ANA ARQUILLO, couple OSCAR and EMMA NAVA, and more people like them!

Talented young boy with guitar ROCK OPONG, Voice Kids Philippines finalist, entertained the guests with his brand of music.

Satiated and satisfied with dishes at Chikaan, everyone took their coffee, ice cream and desserts at Buon Gelato, another business of WILLY and ROWENA SHIN opening that day. Indeed, it was a fabulous sweet treat!
